Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies at Bateman’s Barn  

Meet Grace – our amazing little outdoor wedding space, licensed for ceremonies. She's not exactly new on our historic island block, but beautifully re-purposed. You’ll find her pargetted and peg-tiled to perfection, nestling under the lime trees of the ancient grove, gazing out on the gatehouse ruin - and looking as if she has been belonging here not just for many years, but for centuries.

Like all of us these days, Grace has watched times change as well as the seasons. Now though, all finished off with a smart finial and fairy-lights, she has not only found her feet, but all sorts of folk seem to be falling in love with her at first sight. 

Saving Grace has been our saving grace at Bateman’s Barn in a way. Fully licensed for outdoor wedding ceremonies, she’s ideal for gently small weddings or open-air gatherings - especially if keeping a high level of awareness to protect vulnerable friends and family is a priority. She also promises to be the perfect addition to the South Elmham portfolio for full-on outdoor wedding ceremonies in the future.

Outdoors, intimate, eco & adorable

Measuring just 3m under her smart peg tile hat with leaded gullies, timber-framed Grace is undeniably small and rather sweet with her glazed oak mullions, arched entrance doors and vaulted interior. Surrounded by fantastic fresh air, yet insulated up to the eyeballs, she is delicately decorated and definitely full of surprises – just like a little time-honoured Tardis in fact.

Amazing Grace - Our Licensed Outdoor Ceremony Space   

Inside, there’s usually all the room the registrar needs to conduct the official, signing side of your wedding ceremony – room for the three of you and two witnesses by the doorway. If there are any social distancing measures required by the registrar or wedding party (even beyond times of any Government restrictIons), these can generally be accommodated. 

Outside, friends and family can sit in the dappled sunshine, watching as you take your wedding vows on Grace’s little brick terrace, surrounded by the woodland flowers of the ancient grove and framed by a natural willow arch dripping with scented jasmine and honeysuckle.

Carefully crafted... 

Our local craftsmen have used their heritage building skills to love Grace back to life. They’ve given her a waist-height wainscot boarding and plasterwork interior. Pargetted geometric daisies adorn her corners outside, echoing early medieval designs found in South Elmham Hall’s precious rare wall-paintings.

There’s a nod to cathedral connections and nature too in the vaulted ceiling canopy, where arches reach like branches towards a beautiful, bright star. It's as if the woodland world all around is giving its own blessing.  

For you to dress & decorate 

There’s nothing which Grace likes more than being dressed up for your special occasion. Gentle and almost understated in character, she easily lends herself to sharing your individual style. 

Whether you wish to express that through your choice of flowers or decorative garlands, additional lighting or personal props, that is up to you. Grace is open to your ideas and will do her best to accommodate any curious or quirky accoutrements which would colour her even more beautiful in your eyes.

A heartfelt invitation

Like almost everything about Bateman’s Barn and its island of opportunities, seeing is believing. Grace’s new life amongst the foxgloves, cow parsley, honeysuckle and bluebells, proudly celebrating her home in the safe embrace of our ancient woodland grove, has been our vision.
We believe that we will all find her a joy to share.
